This guide has a wider bread slicing table that allows you to cut loaves up to 6 1/2 wide. The other guides have a 5 1/2" wide table for loaves up to 5 1/2" wide. It is designed to cut three different thickness of bread, 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" quickly and easily.

All shipments are shipped USPS Priority mail and insured by the USPS for loss up to $50. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.

******IMPORTANT****** This guide requires a hand bread knife that has a blade length of at least 12". If using an electric knife the blade has to be over 8 1/2" long.

******IMPORTANT****** The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16" wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife, make sure the blade assembly thickness is less than 3/16". Make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16" or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread. We use a Cuisinart electric knife on our 5 1/2" wide loaf guide and it fits the slot without any problem. I can't use the electric knife on this 6 1/2" wide loaf guide. The blade is not long enough to stay in the slots of the guide.

The slicing guide ships with a anti slip sheet pad that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing. If your pad wares out you can purchase one locally.

I make these bread slicing guides in Lincolnton, Georgia from solid 3/4" oak lumber for the side rails and 1/2" oak veneer for the bread table.

If your bread thickness needs are different than those listed above, message me your required thicknesses. It’s quite possible I can custom build a guide to meet your specific needs.

Videos are available showing the guide being used by going to “You Tube” and searching for “mystery lathe”.

My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice straight slices of bread every time. Plus be usable by right or left handed people.

I feel I accomplished all of my goals in designing and building this bread slicing guide. After you try it I think you will agree. You can spend a lot more for other guides that will not work any better than this one. In fact I think this one works better than all others I have tried. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.

Finished used is Howard Cutting Board Oil. The mineral oil used in "Howard Cutting Board Oil" is from virgin mineral oils and has no contact with nuts, gluten or other potentially allergenic materials either in production, storage, or transport. Their Cutting Board Oil meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces, and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking.

A few words of advice:

The guide is over 8" wide and will not work with a short 8" or 10" bread knife. I use one that is 12" long. They are available on line or most home good stores. If using an electric knife a blade length of 8 1/2" will work fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth.

Accepts bread loaf widths up 6 1/2" wide

It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2" slice thickness measurement for example, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2". As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.

The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. We find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. We let ours rest for at least 4 hours before slicing.

Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.

Why such a hard line policy?

The wood I am using to make each item (this does not apply to Bread slicing guides since they are made of new material) has been laying on the forest floor for many years. It has been subjected to insects, rain, wood decay and green moss. Then baked in the Georgia heat and humidity.

So.......the finished item can and may have cracks, bug holes, wood decay, nicks, marks, green moss and be discolored due to its exposure to nature over the years.

That is why....each wood item I make is so unique and one of a kind. They are different!! That is why you are buying it!!

I cant guarantee natures work. I can only assure you that when I am working on the wood all the skill and ability I have will go into what nature has provided me. My craftsmanship is in every piece I turn.

What happens after the piece is done in the mystery wood shop will be a mystery to all.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM YOU ARE LOOKING AT CAREFULLY AND STUDY THE PICTURES CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PURCHASE. Remember what you see in the picture is what you get, minus color variation due to monitors and lighting conditions.

No exchanges, returns or refunds will be made with the excepton of Bread Slicing Guides.
