The "Horizontal Slicing Guide" plus the "Vertical Base Attachment" is designed to slice three different thickness of bread, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch either horizontally or vertically. By using the "Vertical Base Attachment" along with the "Horizontal Slicing Guide" bread may be sliced in a vertical fashion. By using the "Horizontal Slicing Guide" alone, bread may be sliced in a horizontal fashion. To change your cutting method the base and guide slip together or apart easily. It only takes seconds to accomplish the change. No tools required.
CAUTION! When slicing bread with a knife be careful not to place your fingers in line with the cutting action of the knife. Do not allow children to use this product. Handle with care, knives are very sharp.
The loaf width can be up to 5 1/2 inches wide. If your loaf is wider than 5 1/2 inches you can order the "Horizontal Slicing Guide" in the width that fits your needs, 6 1/2 inch or 7 1/2 inch and order the "Vertical Slicing Base" at the same time. The base is designed to fit any width of the non adjustable slicing guides.
The slicing guide ships with a anti slip mat that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing.
The two units fit together for easy storage as shown in the pictures.
I personally hand craft each “Bread Slicing Guide" and "Vertical Base Attachment" one at a time in Lincolnton, Georgia from solid 1/2 and 3/4 inch oak lumber for the side rails and 1/2 inch oak veneer for the bread table. The guide will last a lifetime with proper care. Clean with a damp cloth. DO NOT SOAK IN WATER.
The finish used is food grade mineral oil that meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces, and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking.
All shipments are shipped USPS Priority mail and insured by the USPS for loss up to $50. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
If your bread thickness needs are different than those listed above, message me your required thicknesses. It’s quite possible I can custom build a guide to meet your specific needs.
Videos are available showing the guide being used by going to “You Tube” and searching for “Mystery Lathe”.
*****IMPORANT***** The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16" wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife, make sure the blade assembly thickness is less than 3/16". Make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16" or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread. We use a Cuisinart electric knife and it fits the slot without any problem.
*****IMPORTANT***** The guide is over 7 inch wide and will not work with a short 8 inch bread knife. I use one that is 12 inch long. They are available on line or most home good stores. Our electric knife has a blade length of 7 1/2 inches and works fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth.
A few words of advice:
It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2 inch slice thickness measurement, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2 inches. As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.

Why such a hard line policy?
The wood I am using to make each item (this does not apply to Bread slicing guides since they are made of new material) has been laying on the forest floor for many years. It has been subjected to insects, rain, wood decay and green moss. Then baked in the Georgia heat and humidity.
So.......the finished item can and may have cracks, bug holes, wood decay, nicks, marks, green moss and be discolored due to its exposure to nature over the years.
That is why....each wood item I make is so unique and one of a kind. They are different!! That is why you are buying it!!
I cant guarantee natures work. I can only assure you that when I am working on the wood all the skill and ability I have will go into what nature has provided me. My craftsmanship is in every piece I make by hand in my wood working shop located in Lincolnton, Georgia.
What happens after the piece is done in the mystery wood shop will be a mystery to all.
PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM YOU ARE LOOKING AT CAREFULLY AND STUDY THE PICTURES CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PURCHASE. Remember what you see in the picture is what you get, minus color variation due to monitors and lighting conditions.
No exchanges, returns or refunds will be made with the excepton of Bread Slicing Guides.
