This combination "Horizontal/Vertical Adjustable Bread Slicing Guide" by Mystery Lathe, is designed to accept bread loaves up to 5 1/2 inches wide. It will cut slice thicknesses from 1/8 inch up to 1 inch thick using a horizontal or vertical slicing method. Be advised that very thin slices 1/4 inch and below are difficult to obtain on certain softer loaves of bread.
To use your guide, adjust the slice thickness by simply loosening the four wing nuts using your fingers and move the bread tray up or down. Tighten the wing nuts to hold the guides slice thickness in place. When you have your slice thickness adjusted, to slice horizontally place the guide on its anti slip mate. To slice vertically place the guide into the slot on its base. The guide ships with a anti slip mat that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing. Tools are not required to set up your guide for use and it is quick and easy to do. As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.
The guide and base lay flat together for easy storage as shown in the pictures.

Each bread slicing guide and base are hand crafted by myself in Lincolnton, Georgia from solid 3/4 inch oak lumber. The guide will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. DO NOT SOAK IN WATER.
The finish used is food grade mineral oil that meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces, and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking.

A few words of advice:
With the 5 1/2 inch (over all width is 7 inches) guide I use a 12 inch bread knife.
The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16 inches wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16 inches or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread.
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. I find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. Note: The guide can cut slices as thin as 1/8 inch thickness, not all bread can be cut that thin. The minimum thickness you can obtain has a lot to do with the density and softness of the bread you are cutting.
