CAUTION! When slicing bread with a knife be careful not to place your fingers in line with the cutting action of the knife. Do not allow children to use this product. Handle with care.
This guide is designed to cut three different thickness of bread. 1/4-inch, 1/2 inch and 11/16 inch quickly and easily. The loaf width can be up to 5 1/2 inches wide. The minimum thickness you can obtain has a lot to do with the density and softness of the bread you are cutting. My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice's straight slices of bread every time. Plus be usable by right or left-handed people.
A Vertical Base does not ship with this Horizontal guide and is not available.
The slicing guide ships with a anti slip mat that is placed under the slicing guide to stop it from sliding on your countertop while slicing. If your mat wares out, you can purchase one locally.
I personally hand craft each bread slicing guide in Lincolnton, Georgia from solid 3/4-inch oak lumber for the side rails and 1/2-inch oak veneer for the bread table. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.
The finish used is food grade mineral oil that meets US FDA requirements for food contact surfaces and is safe for all food preparation surfaces. The penetrating quality of food-grade mineral oil brings out the depth of grain in wood and helps prevent drying and cracking. You may apply more mineral oil or cutting board oil as the wood dries over time.
All shipments are shipped FREE. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
If your bread thickness needs are different than those listed above, message me your required thicknesses. It’s quite possible I can custom build a guide to meet your specific needs.
Videos are available showing the guide being used by going to “You Tube” and searching for “Mystery Lathe”.
A few words of advice:
This guide has an overall width of 7 inches and will not work well with a short 10-inch bread knife. I use a 12-inch bread knife.
The guides cutting slots for the knife are 3/16 inches wide. If you are going to be using an electric knife, make sure you check the thickness at the tip of the blade where the two blades are connected together. If it measures 3/16 inches or greater you will not be able to get the blade into the slot to slice your bread.
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. I find that the longer it rests the better it will slice. The minimum thickness you can obtain has a lot to do with the density and softness of the bread you are cutting.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included with guide.
If you ever have any questions, issues or problems with your guide please call or text my cell phone: 315-868-3453 or email me at "firstname.lastname@example.org". Give me a chance to make things right. Don't be surprised when I just say hello upon answering. This really is my personal cell phone. I'm 74 and this is my hobby not a money grabbing business.
