Welcome to Mystery Lathe.
Bread slicing guides and trivets are made from new material purchased from local lumber yards. Unlike my wood turnings and other creations, the materials used to make them are clean and free of any defects.
All of my wood turnings are made on a 50 plus year old wood lathe using down and dead cedar trees that have been laying on the forest floor surrounding my shop in Lincolnton GA for many years. Other natural items are made from the same source of wood.
Each piece is one of a kind. The wood used provides some very interesting finished work. Bug holes, wood decay, years of weathering and green moss see to that!
Please remember what you see in the picture is what you get, minus color variation due to monitors and lighting conditions.
I assure you that when I am working with the wood all the skill and ability I have will go into what nature has provided me. My craftsmanship is in every piece I turn.
Please spend time and look around. I hope you find something you like.
Thanks for shopping with me.

Why such a hard line policy?
The wood I am using to make each item (this does not apply to Bread slicing guides since they are made of new material) has been laying on the forest floor for many years. It has been subjected to insects, rain, wood decay and green moss. Then baked in the Georgia heat and humidity.
So.......the finished item can and may have cracks, bug holes, wood decay, nicks, marks, green moss and be discolored due to its exposure to nature over the years.
That is why....each wood item I make is so unique and one of a kind. They are different!! That is why you are buying it!!
I cant guarantee natures work. I can only assure you that when I am working on the wood all the skill and ability I have will go into what nature has provided me. My craftsmanship is in every piece I turn.
What happens after the piece is done in the mystery wood shop will be a mystery to all.
