Hand Crafted Oak Bread Slicing Guide: 2 Slice Thicknesses Using Horizontal Slicing

I’m here to help you pick the perfect slicing guide and width. Here are some things to think about:

1. All my guides are designed to slice loaves horizontally. The only exception is the Horizontal/Vertical combination guide, which lets you choose between horizontal or vertical slicing. You can find one of my guides for between $39.00 and $95.00, and they all will give you the straight slice you want. The price doesn’t really matter; it just gives you more slice thickness options and the material used.
2. For round loaves, cut them in half. Place the cut face down on the guide and slice. The diameter of the loaf doesn’t matter; the height does. For example, an 8-inch round loaf that’s 5 1/2 inches tall can be sliced with any 5 1/2-inch wide guide. If your loaf is over 8 inches in diameter, choose the open style guide. You can easily slice any diameter round loaf, as long as the height doesn’t exceed the width of the guides. Take note of the last few pictures. They show the first guide I built 6 years ago still in use by my wife after she sliced three different types of bread in less than 5 minutes into 1/2 thick slices recently. One of the loaves was over 7-inches round and she did it on the old 5 1/2-inch wide guide.

This guide is perfect for loaves up to 5 1/2-inches high or wide. It helps you achieve perfectly sliced bread. The thicknesses are close to the approximate slice thickness due to the different bread slicing techniques.

A removable backstop that you can use while slicing horizontally, as shown in the photos. While I don’t personally use one when slicing horizontally, I do receive requests for it occasionally. If you have a weak hand grip, this backstop will be helpful while slicing. Choose the option that includes the backstop “BS” along with the Horizontal Guides slice thickness you desire.

Silicone tabs on all eight corners prevent the guide from sliding on the counter.

I make all my guides right here in Lincoln, Georgia. This guide is built with solid 3/4-inch Oak for the side rails and Birch veneer for the bread table.

The 5 1/2-inch guide can cut bread slices to two different thicknesses. Just pick the one that works best for you when you order.

I wanted to make a guide that’s easy to use, not too expensive, super strong, and super handy for slicing bread straight and even.

Here are some tips for using a horizontal slicing guide:

- I’ve sold lots of these guides all over the USA, and most people are really happy with them.
- If you find it hard to slice bread by hand, maybe a vertical guide would be a better fit. It takes a bit more skill to slice horizontally than vertically.
- If you’re good at using your hands, horizontal slicing is the fastest and easiest way to get perfectly sliced bread.
- If you’re not happy with your guide, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days of getting it.
- It takes a little practice to get the hang of using this guide.

IMPORTANT: A bread knife with a blade at least 12 inches long is a good idea. A 10-inch knife might make things tricky and could even cause the blade to fall out of the guides. Just a heads-up, the knife isn’t included in the order.

To keep your guide in great shape, try to keep it dry and out of the dishwasher. If it gets dirty, just wipe it off with a dry or damp cloth.

When you’re using the guide, be careful because the knife is sharp and can cut both bread and you. Keep it out of reach of kids. If you’re worried about getting hurt, you can always return it for a full refund. Your safety and happiness are really important to me.
