I’ve been making bread slicing guides for six years, always thinking in inches for slice thickness. But today, I realized it’s about personal preference. So, I created a guide where you decide the thickness, from ⅛ to 1 inch.

NO PLASTIC PARTS…ALL SOLID OAK WOOD CONSTRUCTION BY MYSELF IN LINCOLNTON,GA.
This guide is super adjustable, from 1/4 to 1 inch thick. Forget the ruler; set it to your desired thickness with your fingers and eyes. The guide lines are evenly spaced for easy alignment.
The guide is designed for slicing with a bread knife or electric knife. Slots guide your bread knife, and the top of the guide guides an electric knife or bread knife.
Made from solid ¾-inch Oak Harwood. The bread board portion is laminated solid 3/4-inch Oak for durability. The wood finish is food-safe Mineral Oil. It’s built to last a lifetime!
This combination H/V guide comes with a removable back stop for horizontal slicing. It’s not my preferred method, but it helps those with weak hand grips.
As shown in the pictures, the adjustable guide in a Horizontal/Vertical combination. It’s only available in the 7-inch bread table width.
Take note of the last few pictures. They show the first guide I built 6 years ago still in use by my wife after she sliced three different types of bread in less than 5 minutes into 1/2 thick slices recently. One of the loafs was over 7-inches round and she did it on the old 5 1/2-inch wide guide.
To prevent sliding, I’ve added silicone tabs to the bottom corners.
I handcraft all my bread slicing guides in Lincoln, Georgia. This guide is made from solid 3/4-inch oak lumber for the side rails and bread table. NO PLASTIC PARTS!
I wanted a simple, budget-friendly, long-lasting, easy-to-store guide that slices bread into perfect, straight slices.
I’ve made YouTube videos showing how to use the guide. Search for “Mystery Lathe” or “William Frank”.
Here are some tips for using a horizontal slicing guide:
I’ve sold hundreds of these guides across the USA, and most users are happy. After selling over 2,000 guides, I’ve noticed that if you struggle with hand-slicing, a vertical guide might be better. It takes more skill to slice horizontally than vertically. But if you’re good at hand-eye coordination, horizontal slicing is the quickest and easiest way to get perfect slices. Just a heads-up: if you’re not satisfied, you can return it for a full refund within 30 days. The old saying “Practice makes perfect” applies to learning how to use this guide.
IMPORTANT: For best results, use a bread knife with a blade length of at least 12 inches. A 10-inch knife might be frustrating and the blade tip might fall out of the guides’ knife slot. I’m not including the knife with the order.
Keep your guide dry and out of water or the dishwasher. If it gets dirty, wipe it off with a dry or damp cloth.
Please be careful when using the guide. The knife is sharp and can cut bread and you too. Keep it out of reach of children. If you’re worried about getting hurt, return it for a full refund.
Call or text me at 315-868-3453 or email me at “mysterylathe@gmail.com” if you have any questions or need help with your guide. I’m here to lend a hand. You might even be surprised when I just say hello when I answer. This is my personal cell phone, and I’m 79 years old. It’s a hobby, not a business.

Great tool - the "deluxe" version is very flexible and (so far) can handle every homemade loaf of bread I've used it to slice.

Works as described! Benefits from a long knife that stays in the grooves while slicing.
