If you want a bread slicing guide that works and not spend a lot of money, here it is. No fancy adjustments or multiple cut slots on this guide. It does one thing.....cut 1/2" slices of bread perfectly every time! By resting the cutting knife on the top of the slicing guide (keep it there) and moving it back thru the bread a 1/2 slice of bread will be cut every time. The more expensive guides I offer work with a knife slot that helps hold the knife onto the guides surface as you slice the bread. Do you need the slot to be successful? Yes and no.....If you concentrate holding the knife on the guides surface as you slice, all will be fine. With a little practice you can do it every time.
All shipments are shipped USPS Priority mail and insured by the USPS for loss up to $50. Your order will ship the same day or the next business day from when I receive the paid order. Transit time is usually 2 to 3 days.
This guide series is lite in weight and very compact at only 2 1/2" tall. Thus making it super easy to handle and store.
This guide is available in Oak with a hand rubbed food safe mineral oil finish or Poplar with out a finish applied.
What is the difference between the two types of wood you might ask? Oak is much heavier and denser than Poplar. Oak is much stronger than Poplar. Oak lumber cost almost twice as much as Poplar lumber.
Should I buy the Poplar slicing guide over the Oak slicing guide? That's like asking should I buy a Ford or a Lincoln. Both slicing guides, Oak or Poplar will do the job and should last a life time if cared for properly. It all comes down to personal preference and cost. All of my guides work on the same principle of aligning the knife even with the bread. So it really doesn't matter if you spend $17 or $40 they all will slice perfect slices of bread.
This guide is designed to accept bread loaves up to 5 1/2" wide. If your loaves are wider than 5 1/2" I make an "Extra Wide Horizontal Guide" that accepts loaves up to 6 1/2" wide.
If you need a thickness greater or less than 1/2" for your slices of bread, message me with your needs and I can build it for you. No extra charge!

By reducing the material required to build this guide, eliminating any adjustments and eliminating the machining of the bread knife slots I can offer this guide at a very attractive price. The construction quality and the slicing ability of the guide have not been jeopardized in any way. This is a quality product that will last a life time if taken care of properly. Never soak in water. Simply wipe the guides surfaces with a damp cloth when it needs cleaning.
This bread slicing guide is made by myself in Lincolnton, Georgia. It is available in either 3/4" Poplar lumber for the side rails and 1/2" Birch Veneer for the bread tray with out a finished applied or 3/4" Oak lumber for the side rails and 1/2" Oak Veneer for the bread tray with a food safe mineral oil finish applied. No plastic parts to break.
My goals were to make it easy to use, affordable, durable, easily stored and most of all slice straight slices of bread every time. It also needed to be compatible using either an electric or bread knife. Plus be usable by right or left handed people.
The guide ships with one anti slip pad. This is used under the guide so that it will not move around as you slice your bread.
I feel I accomplished all of my goals in designing and building this bread slicing guide. After you try it I think you will agree. You can spend a lot more for other guides that will not work any better than this one. In fact I think this one works better than all others I have tried. It will last a lifetime with proper care. Just clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak with water.
A few words of advice:
The guide is over 7" wide and will not work with a short 8" bread knife. I use one that is 12" long. They are available on line or most home good stores. Our electric knife has a blade length of 7 1/2" and works fine since it does the sawing, not you as in a bread knife that needs to saw back and forth.
It has been my experience that even though the guide has a 1/2" slice thickness measurement for example, the actual thickness can very slightly. Loaf density or pressure applied by the cutter does effect the slices thickness by a small amount above or below the measured 1/2". As you gain experience in the use of the guide, you will be slicing your bread like a pro every time.
The bread needs to rest on your counter and cool down to room temperature. We find that the longer it rest the better it will slice. We let ours rest for at least 4 hours before slicing.
Use caution while slicing with a knife to avoid injury. Knife not included.
Finished used: Poplar guide none. You may apply the finish you desire if you think it needs a finish. The Oak guide, hand rubbed food safe mineral oil.
Over all width: 7" (Accepts bread loaf widths up 5 1/2" wide)
Height: 2 1/2"
Weight: Oak 1 lb. 8 oz. Poplar 1 lb. 6 oz.

Why such a hard line policy?
The wood I am using to make each item (this does not apply to Bread slicing guides since they are made of new material) has been laying on the forest floor for many years. It has been subjected to insects, rain, wood decay and green moss. Then baked in the Georgia heat and humidity.
So.......the finished item can and may have cracks, bug holes, wood decay, nicks, marks, green moss and be discolored due to its exposure to nature over the years.
That is why....each wood item I make is so unique and one of a kind. They are different!! That is why you are buying it!!
I cant guarantee natures work. I can only assure you that when I am working on the wood all the skill and ability I have will go into what nature has provided me. My craftsmanship is in every piece I turn.
What happens after the piece is done in the mystery wood shop will be a mystery to all.
